Martin's report from day trip to Karlovy Vary
Karlovy Vary private tour
Some details and one picture were copied paste from wikipedia.
Karlovy Vary is a spa city situated in western Bohemia, Czech Republic, approximately 130 km (80 miles) west of Prague. It is named after King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV, who founded the city in 1370. It is historically famous for its hot springs (13 main springs, about 300 smaller springs, and the warm-water Tepla River). In the 19th century, it became a popular tourist destination, especially for international celebrities visiting for spa treatment. The city is also known for the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and the popular Czech liqueur Karlovarska Becherovka. The glass manufacturer Moser Glass is located in Carlsbad. The city has also given its name to the famous delicacy known as "Carlsbad plums". These plums (usually Quetsch) are candied in hot syrup, then halved and stuffed into dried damsons; this gives them a very intense flavour. One should not fortget about world-famous biscuits, by mistake sometime called as Carlsbad waffles. It is not a waffle in any way... The city has been used as the location for a number of film-shoots, including the Last Holiday and box-office hit Casino Royale, both of which used the city's Grandhotel Pupp in different guises.
Transfer from Prague to Karlovy Vary
We departed at 9:00 in the morning from the hotel Movenpick Prague. I was very lucky as traffic that morning was extremely bad due to some truck accident on one of Prague bridges. Whole city center was messed and all traffic was like a snail chain.
Fortunately route from Barrandov to Movenpick did not have much problematic areas and way out of Prague towards Karlovy Vary was clear as well. We did an easy pace as the two sympathetic ladies were in no hurry as we needed to come back to Prague at 5pm.
On the way to Karlovy Vary I had plenty of time to do my "guiding" part of the job. I as usual told everything I knew. My clients were attentive, asked lots of questions and journey ran fast. Soon we passed the Golf resort in Karlovy Vary and through the spectacular route we entered the city. I made a short driven tour of the city, I went only to places where regular traffic can go as lots of the parts need a special permit.
Prague to Karlovy Vary Grand hotel Pupp
When we saw what was possible with the car, we returned to the Grand hotel Pupp where we agreed that at 1pm we would meet and return to Prague. I was blissed when I gave them my card with mobile number as they got lost. We met at the Thermal hotel instead of Grand hotel Pupp and headed back to Prague.
En route we stopped in Krusovice, which is a brewery city, for lunch at the "U Lipy restaurant".
Karlovy Vary to Prague transportation
We arrived to Prague safe and sound at 16:00.
Cost of the tour for two persons with English speaking guide-driver was 130 EUR. You can book similiar tour on our website.
